The same Academy Award-winning Cooke S4 lens optics, but with electronic intelligence. S4/i: Lenses with "Intelligence." The new Cooke S4/i Motion Picture Lens Intelligence System for comprehensive, continuous lens data information.
Our S4/i lenses are designed for all professional motion picture film cameras. The S4/i system provides cinematographers and camera operators with vital information on lens setting, focusing distance, aperture and depth-of-field, hyperfocal distance, serial number, owner data, lens type and focal length in both metric and footage measurements. For zoom lenses, the zoom position is displayed.
The S4/i system is designed for use with LDS equipped cameras, and for use with any professional film camera -- 16mm or 35mm, Arri D-20, or Red -- using a Lens Display unit, such as Arri's LDS.
Absolute encoders positioned inside the lens monitor focus, zoom and iris settings to ensure that outputs are available immediately from "power on."
Electronic microprocessor and software are embedded in the lens that read focus, zoom and iris settings and calculate important picture format data. This data and current settings are then transferred via a serial link to either an Arri camera equipped with LDS via the LDS contacts within the mount, or via the lens' external connector to the Cinematography Electronics S4/i Data Display unit.
Pre-adjustment or pre-setting is never necessary.
The Cinematography Electronics /i Lens Display unit interfaces the Cooke S4/i lens system with their popular CineTape Measure System, and adds lens data previously not available: actual measured subject distance. The focus puller will now know where the subject falls within the depth-of-field for the particular lens being used. This data is continuously updated and displayed for real time information.
Cooke /i dataLink: Record accurate lens parameters for each frame of action and save considerable time and cost in post. Details
