Now you'll have another good reason to buy that new
high-definition television set for Christmas. Starting Jan. 6,
WLS-Channel 7 will become the first station in Chicago to broadcast its
entire lineup -- including all of its local newscasts -- in glorious HD.
"We are proud to once again lead the way in cutting-edge technology by
being the first station in town to broadcast local news and programming
in high definition," said Emily Barr, president and general manager of
the top-rated ABC-owned station.
"Just like the transition from black and white to color, HD
broadcasting infuses a sense of excitement for our viewers. As the
Chicago station with the most HD local programming, ABC 7's audience
will enjoy the 'wow factor' that comes with such a high-quality viewing
experience," she said.
Channel 7 has spent millions gearing up for the transition, including
installation of HD control rooms and deployment of the only HD
helicopter in the market. Field cameras are not yet equipped for HD
transmission.
Viewers whose televisions are not HD ready will continue to receive a standard picture with some noticeable enhancements.
